Caring for Haitians Living with Hansen’s Disease
A young doctor named Paluel Joseph Flagg, grieving the loss of his wife and their infant daughter, hoped to find solace in service. He traveled to Haiti, where he discovered patients suffering from the devastating condition then known as leprosy. Inspired by the Haitians he met and the need he saw, Dr. Flagg went on to found CMMB. More than a century later, we remain dedicated to caring for those living with leprosy, or Hansen’s Disease. CMMB supports Klinik Sen Damien, Haiti’s only dedicated...
Expanding Cancer Care in Kenya
For nearly a decade, CMMB has worked with communities and government to bring cancer care to Kenya’s Kitui County, where breast and cervical cancer account for half of all cancer diagnoses. Today, women have broader access to screening, an essential for catching cancer in its early stages, when it is easiest to cure. More girls protect their futures with the HPV vaccine. And cancer patients, who once traveled far distances for treatment, receive quality medical care and emotional support clos...
Strengthening Cervical and Lung Cancer Care in Zambia
Cervical cancer is almost entirely preventable, yet in Zambia it accounts for 41% of new cancer cases among women. When detected early, cervical cancer is also highly curable. But more Zambians die from cervical cancer than any other type. Early detection and prompt treatment of lung cancer is also challenging, with treatment available only in Lusaka, Zambia’s capital. As with cervical cancer, late diagnoses often lead to poor patient outcomes.
CMMB is working to improve lung and cervical can...

I contributed writing and proofreading support to CMMB's 2025 Annual Report.
Faithful to Mission, Resilient in Action
In a year filled with challenges, your support made it possible for us to stay true to CMMB’s faith-driven mission: to build locally sustainable, quality health solutions. Our teams in Haiti, Kenya, Peru, South Sudan, and Zambia delivered compassionate care to communities facing extraordinary hardship. Our Access to Medicines Program extended our reach around the world.
Persevering Through Struggle
Shokrullah worried about his family’s safety in their native country. He had worked as an electrician in the US Embassy, and with the ruling party back in power, he was concerned that his service for the Americans put his family at risk.
With Resilience, Forging a New Future
Growing up in his home country, Jose’s mother would send him to buy bread, a little gift of independence that sparked his curiosity in the world of baking. When he was just 13, he started working at a bakery, learning the art of making baguettes and pan campesino.
He honed his craft for more than three decades, even as conditions in his country became more difficult for him and later, his family. But last summer, the life Jose had shaped changed dramatically.
Five Ways to Share the Gift of Health This Christmas
As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, many of us are busy shopping for our loved ones. But the most precious gifts come without fancy bows. Love, peace, togetherness: these are more valuable than anything we set under the Christmas tree. So is the gift of good health.
Ten Stories That Defined Our Work in 2025
As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on a year filled with both progress and challenges. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, CMMB reached women, children, and their communities in the world’s most vulnerable places, saving lives through prenatal care, safe deliveries, and nutrition support.
Prioritizing the Mental Health of Mothers in Peru
Pregnancy and new motherhood are often happy times in a woman’s life, but they can be challenging seasons, too. As women undergo physical and hormonal changes, they may struggle with their mental health. In low- and middle-income countries, one in four women experiences depression during pregnancy or in the year after giving birth.
CMMB and P&G: A Life-Changing Clean Water Partnership
Two billion people worldwide lack reliable access to clean, safe drinking water. When the need is so great, our collective response must be greater. For nearly a decade, CMMB has partnered with P&G to bring clean drinking water into homes, schools, and health facilities in remote, hard-to-reach places.
Giving Strength to New Mothers in Peru
Comprehensive prenatal care, including mental health support, is essential for the health and well-being of both mother and child. But when healthcare is difficult to access, women often go without. In some impoverished communities in Peru, the lack of public transportation or the complicated cost of care can create barriers that are insurmountable for many expectant mothers. Many women are also influenced by the cultural expectation that visiting a doctor is for emergencies only.
Bringing Lifesaving Nutrition Support to South Sudan
Food insecurity is a persistent challenge in South Sudan. Today, it is acute: More than half of the population faces severe hunger as South Sudan confronts one of the hardest chapters in its short history. When proper nutrition is out of reach, the consequences are devastating, especially for young children and pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Saving Children from Malnutrition in South Sudan
Good nutrition is essential for a healthy childhood. But in South Sudan, one in 10 children die before their fifth birthday, mostly from preventable illnesses. For many of these deaths, malnutrition is a contributing factor.
Delivering Critical Surgical Supplies with United Palestinian Appeal
The right equipment can mean the difference between life and death in healthcare. Yet in many parts of the world, health workers lack the essential resources, including surgical supplies, they need to provide affordable, quality care. CMMB’s Access to Medicines Program donates mission-critical medicines and medical supplies to health facilities that serve vulnerable populations, helping fill the gap between need and treatment.
